Audition Eligibility
2026 - 2027
2026–2027 orchestral auditions in West Houston, welcoming young musicians from across Greater Houston. Submit a Round 1 video; attend a live callback only if invited.
Eligibility
1
Open to students in Grades 2–12
2
Placement is determined by age, experience, and level of preparation
3
Current members must re-audition for advancement
4
Placement is not guaranteed and depends on availability
5
Students must be actively studying their instrument
Younger applicants may be considered for entry-level ensembles according to readiness and musical development. Preparatory is a developmental evaluation: a simple scale or note pattern and a short piece or exercise, with no required orchestral excerpt.
Students progress through Preparatory, Overture, Symphony and Philharmonic. Chamber is a select advanced string ensemble that complements Philharmonic. Current orchestra students are evaluated again for the new season; previous placement does not automatically guarantee the same ensemble.
Families from across Greater Houston are welcome to ask about the appropriate starting level. Contact auditions@elsistematexas.org for current requirements and dates.
