El Sistema Texas presented its ninth performance of the year. The 150 children chanted traditional holiday songs and played their instruments.
Moving and beautiful, but festive and magical at the same time. That was the performance of the students of El Sistema Texas during their Christmas concert.
The children showed how they had mastered their skills with the resonance of their charming vocals and excellent technique while they played their instruments. During the 2-hour- performance, the artists interpreted 23 pieces in front of 300 people who showed with tears and smiles how proud they were of the young musicians.
The Hispanic Children’s Symphony Orchestra conductor, Rhomy López, said the students performed a tutti. “This means the children, youth orchestras, and the choirs were together on stage. Our 150 students sang and played Christmas carols at the same time.”
The students, ages 6 to 17, wore Santas’ hats with neat white, navy blue, and white uniforms.Varying from English and Spanish pieces, the children’s choir sang traditional Venezuelan songs like Alumbra Cocuyito and La Cabra Mocha. The youth choir vocalized international Christmas melodies like Carol of the Bells and 12 Days of Christmas.
The Children’s and Youth Orchestras played the violin, viola, cello, double bass, and percussion with intensity and excellent technique. Under the direction of their conductors, children from El Sistema Texas gave life to Canticorum Jubilo from Judas Maccabaeus and Palladio from Karl Jenkins.
López expressed her gratitude to all the audience who joined the children as they sang and played Feliz Navidad as the closing piece. “The ambiance was festive and joyful. Spectators stood up and sang with our children; even our volunteers joined the celebration.”
A thunderous applause from the audience resonated at the end of the concert. The event occurred on Saturday, December 2nd, in Church on the Rock Katy, Houston.
