The choirs and orchestras of El Sistema Texas welcome new talents. The enrollment of students began in January 2024. Those interested can apply and, if required, can also opt for a scholarship.
The founder and director of this non-profit institution, Álvaro Carrillo, said that they make these calls each year. “Auditions are open all year round. Those interested must enter the website www.elsistematexas.org and fill out a digital form,” he said.
Applicants only need to meet two requirements: be between 6 and 17 years of age and live in the Houston metropolitan area.
El Sistema Texas has four programs: the Hispanic Symphony Choir, the Preparatory Symphony Orchestra, the Children’s Symphony Orchestra, and the Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In orchestras, candidates need six months of experience with one of the musical instruments: violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
Auditions and classes are on Saturdays between 2.00 and 6.30 pm at Church on the Rock. The rehearsal space is at 433 Barker Cypress Rd. Houston, TX 77094.
El Sistema Texas is a non-profit organization whose vision is the socio-educational integration of students, their families, and the Hispanic communities of Houston. Its philosophy is social transformation through the collective practice of music.
