Today marks the beginning of a momentous international tour for El Sistema Texas. A delegation of talented children and youth will depart from Houston to represent the United States at the prestigious global gathering of Youth and Children’s Orchestras, “Melodies du Monde,” which will take place from June 1 to 12 in France and Italy.
The tour will kick off with two eagerly anticipated concerts at two of the most prestigious music conservatories in France: the Conservatory of Sarcelles and the Conservatory of Ermont. Subsequently, the delegation will travel to Italy, where they will give two performances in Rome: one at the University of International Studies and another at the Museum of Musical Instruments of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. This museum, located in the birthplace of the world’s most renowned instrument makers, houses invaluable collections including Stradivarius, Guarnerius del Gesù, and other musical treasures of Rome.
At the University of International Studies, the founders and teachers of El Sistema Texas, Álvaro Carrillo and Rhomy López, will deliver a lecture titled “Integrating Communities Through Music.”
Inspired and allied with the renowned El Sistema of Children’s and Youth Orchestras of Venezuela, El Sistema Texas has emerged as a powerful reference in music education in Houston and throughout Texas. In just two years since its founding, it has received numerous accolades for its musical excellence, awarded by the City of Houston, the State of Texas, and the United States Congress. Thanks to its pedagogical excellence and the visionary management of its leadership, children who began with no musical knowledge now possess a level that allows them to represent their country on international stages.
This international tour is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all members of El Sistema Texas, who have tirelessly worked to achieve levels of artistic performance recognized worldwide. The young musicians, who represent the diversity and talent of Houston, will not only share their music but also engage in enriching cultural exchanges, strengthening ties between musical communities from different parts of the world. This journey promises to be an unforgettable experience that will highlight the power of music to unite hearts and transcend borders.
“This tour is more than an opportunity to showcase our talent. It is a symbol of hope and unity. Our young musicians, who began with no prior experience, now have the chance to shine on international stages, demonstrating that music can transform lives and connect cultures. We are incredibly proud of them and what we have achieved in such a short time,” says Álvaro Carrillo, founder and CEO of El Sistema Texas.
