Among rehearsals, petting farm animals, and sharing time outdoors. That is how 35 students from the Children’s and Youth Orchestras spent their Spring Break. The musicians enjoyed time together at Pazific Ranch in Wallis, Texas.
The cofounder and Orchestral Program Manager of El Sistema Texas, Rhomy López explained this music seminar offered children and teenagers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in music outside their typical learning environment. Their purpose is to encourage their personal growth and the development of social skills.
Leading to their first international tour in Europe, El Sistema Texas teachers offered intensive musical activities, including orchestra rehearsals, instrument-specific practice sections, and master classes. With this intensive program, children and teenagers got more hours of practice and experienced recreational activities to promote camaraderie and teamwork.
“These activities were carefully selected to complement musical training, offering young musicians a balance between disciplined effort and shared enjoyment,” expressed López.
Ten chaperones and volunteers supported the teachers and students throughout all their activities to make them flow smoothly and safely.
Because of the success of this camp and the valuable participation of parents and organizers, El Sistema Texas is hosting another Spring Break camp in 2025.
